The Swakopmund Museum was established in 1951 by dentist Dr Alfons Weber, who had a love for history and natural history. The Swakopmund Museum is the largest privately-run museum in Namibia. The exhibits include indigenous plants, animals, minerals, archaeological finds, old modes of transport in Namibia, and a variety of other interesting exhibitions. In the Swakopmund Museum you will also find artefacts that give you an insight into the history and culture of the Namibian people.
You can decide between a self-guided tour or a guided tour. The guided tour needs to be booked in advance with the curator: Nadine.p@sciswk.com or 064 402046.
The Museum further hosts multiple events and public lectures. For detailed schedule and information please visit our Facebook, or Instagram pages, or visit our events calendar. Additionally, are invited to join our WhatsApp broadcast group (WhatsApp to +264 64 402695) or send us an email to be put on our mailing list.
The Museum Shop is a must for book-lovers, postcard-writers and souvenir-shoppers. It has something for everyone, young and old. Need to send that postcard? No problem, the friendly cashiers got stamps for sale and will gladly help you locate our red historical post box to send it away.
